Questions and Answers!

Where did you hear of the Mongol Derby?

The first year the Mongol Derby took place (in 2008), it hit the news headlines because it was such a big thing. From that point it had me interested and ever since I've bee following it through their facebook page.

Why and when did you decide to enter the Mongol Derby?

Since I've known about the Mongol Derby, I thought to myself "I have to do this one day!" So when in October 2012 The Adventurist (the organisation of the Mongol Derby) called for last minute nominations, I thought, O well lets nominate, what's the chance that I will get to be one of the 35 riders that get picked....?! Well maybe I should have thought about that twice! Because a week later I got the call and got invited to be one of the 35 people to ride in the Mongol Derby 2013! That is what you call an 'OMG' moment!

What are you most looking forward about the Derby?

The adventure, the thrills and spills! Meeting people from a completely different culture and lifestyle. Being one with your noble steed surrounded by amazing landscapes. I'm just looking forward to absolutely everything!

What are you least looking forward to?

First: I've been a vegeterian for the last 12 years.... and the fact that Mongolians live mainly from their animals, I might have to give my 12 year strike rate of non meat eating up. But hey I'll be alright!

Second: Some of those ponies are feral! I can sit a pretty good buck but these guys don't get ridden or worked every day!

How have friends/family/colleagues reacted to your participation so far?

They are all very supportive, though think I’m absolutely mad, but wouldn’t expect anything different from me.

Your adventuring ethos?

I don’t want to die wondering about how it would’ve/could’ve been.

Can we follow you during the ride?
You sure can!
